Ice damming and freeze-thaw
Ice damming is the biggest winter threat for Roseville roofs. When heat escapes through the attic, snow melts on the roof deck and refreezes at the colder eave, forcing water back under the shingles. Roseville’s stock of 1950s and 60s ranch homes is especially vulnerable — low pitch means less vertical distance between the heated wall and the eave, and original insulation in those homes is rarely adequate. Two things fix it: ice and water shield extending at least 24 inches inside the heated wall line, and balanced attic ventilation. If you’ve had ice dam leaks before, both need to happen at the same time.
